Professional Blackjack Player Is Winning Because of Card Counting

August 20th, 2010 by Site Admin

Daniel Dravot is a real estate developer turned professional blackjack player, who knows how to count cards and win blackjack games. Dravot is also the author of the blackjack guide titled “The Color of Blackjack” which describes card counting methods and instructs players on how to do so in such a manner as to ensure winning. The book discusses a new system of counting cards which Dravot believes is best suited to the average player.

Now a professional player, Dravot first made his career in real estate but soon retired when he sensed an impending market collapse. After enjoying a bit of a quiet retirement, Dravot got into the blackjack industry as a professional player and began traveling all around the country. Unlike many blackjack players who pick up an interest for the game when they play it, Dravot got interested in blackjack when he first learned about card counting techniques.

Dravot spends a large portion of his time moving from casino to casino, increasing his bankroll by playing blackjack for more than 250 days per year. He does get barred from some casinos when he is found to be counting cards, but since it is just frowned upon and is in no way illegal, Dravot is well within his rights to make money this way.

Seminole Hollywood Casino Now Offering $5 Blackjack

August 19th, 2010 by Site Admin

When the Seminole casinos noticed the popularity of Broward’s offered $5 electronic blackjack via its pari-mutuels, they decided to provide their players with something similar.

As a result they came up with $5 blackjack games that are sure to be a big hit with players. These $5 blackjack games will be hosted at the Hollywood Classic Casino, run by the Tribes and will commence this Friday on the 20th.

Robert Dearstine, Director of marketing for the Seminole Casino Hollywood commented on this new project saying, “Our primary market is south Broward and Miami Dade counties where casinos can only offer so-called virtual blackjack. We believe that live games at the low limit of $5 will be a tremendous selling point for this property.”

Gaming companies like Miami-Dade and Broward enjoyed a lot of popularity when they installed virtual video blackjack games at their sites. Although the state law stipulates that the Seminoles have a monopoly on live blackjack games based on their five year contract, Broward has been permitted to run these blackjack games under the category of slots since the use RNG software.

Now that the Seminoles have launched $5 blackjack, the playing field is even.

Atlantic City Blackjack Dwindles Away

August 16th, 2010 by Site Admin

Blackjack does not seem to be thriving in New Jersey, and more specifically in Atlantic City. The region has seen a lot of job cuts and downsizing since the recession and its blackjack tables appear to be one of the most effected sectors in the gaming industry. According to recent reports, the Atlantic Cape Community College which offers blackjack dealer courses has now taken to trying to attract students from out of state. The reason for this being that Atlantic City no longer has enough of a blackjack industry to support these dealers. The demand is down in the AC Casinos and while roulette croupiers and blackjack dealers are being hired by the dozen in the new casinos in Pennsylvania, there appears to be no place for them in Atlantic City.

Earlier reports indicated that blackjack players were dissatisfied with the blackjack tables and games offered by the AC casinos, which had increased the casino’s edge for these games, making it harder for players to win these games. The AC casinos also removed blackjack tables, closed some during the day time and replaced many with slot machines.

All this led to a decrease in blackjack player traffic, and now educational institutions offering blackjack dealer courses and gaming workshops find themselves with very few takers in New Jersey.

Pennsylvania Police Arrest Blackjack Players for Capping Bets

August 13th, 2010 by Site Admin

Pennsylvania police have arrested two residents of Scranton for cheating at the Blackjack tables of Pocono Downs Casino at Mohegan Sun in Plains Township.

They arrested 56-year-old Tjandra M. Wijono of Gibson Street on Tuesday night and 32-year-old Le Rain of Moosic Street early Wednesday morning and charged them separately for the offense of fraud. They were allegedly “capping” bets or, in other words, adding chips to their wagers after getting a winning hand.

Wjono has been charged on four counts of fraud under Title 4 of the amusement section of the crime code of the state. Police sources state that video footage shows Wjono capping bets four times and collecting extra winnings.

Rain, on the other hand, was caught for deception. Police sources reveal that he had initially placed a $50 bet and then tried to add $500 to the original bet after getting blackjack.

State troopers employed in the casino’s gaming enforcement office arrested the two offenders, who were housed in the jail at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for the entire night. They were later released on unsecured bail of $5000, and will have to appear for a preliminary hearing before Judge Diana Malast on Aug 17.

New Vegas Developments

August 12th, 2010 by Site Admin

Las Vegas might be hurting, but that’s not stopping developers from putting their stamp on the gaming city.

Peebles Corp., a Miami-based company, is planning to build the Las Palmas Resort & Casino on Paradise Road. The company recently acquired a major stake in a small hotel there that also gives the company 20 acres for future development.

The Las Palmas project – which includes a convention center resort and casino and two hotels — is expected to cost more than $2 billion.

But Peebles Chief Executive Officer R. Donahue Peebles said the project will be on hold until the Las Vegas Market begins to show a bit more life. Peebles said that while the company has great faith in the Las Vegas gaming market, it wants to delay development of the massive project until the economic climate in Las Vegas begins to improve.

Peebles also has a majority interest in the Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino, just a block south of the Convention Center. That site will add 13 acres to the Las Palmas project.

Peebles isn’t new to the hotel and hospitality industry. The company has a number of similar developments including high-rise residential properties, commercial properties and luxury hotels.

Blackjack to Arrive in Maryland Casinos Soon

August 11th, 2010 by Site Admin

Maryland will soon be one of the US states offering casino games. This Friday, the first casino of Maryland received 1,500 slot machines and is now in the process of getting them installed for its launch in September 2010.

Perryville-based Hollywood Casino is expected to increase Maryland’s revenue by millions. The recently arrived slot machines will be connected to Maryland’s lottery system so that the money flows directly into the coffers of the state. Steve Schwartz, the gaming analyst, said that this will not only boost the economy of Maryland in a big way, but also open up a lot of job opportunities.

The casino plans to install video poker, roulette, electronic gaming tables, online blackjack, poker, and other classic casino games soon. So far, Maryland has approved only virtual gaming tables. Gaming enthusiasts hope that, with the arrival of many more casinos in the state, real blackjack tables will be offered.

Maryland has a long way to go before gaming enthusiasts can witness the arrival of blackjack tournaments. The state is also not ready to compete with Pennsylvania’s recently regulated gaming tables.

The people of Maryland, however, are excited about these developments, and the state is sure to witness a lot of casino gambling in future.

Seminole Tribes to Open 12 New Blackjack Tables at Coconut Creek on Aug 13th

August 9th, 2010 by Site Admin

After table gaming was legalized mid-week of July, it took some time before casinos saw the player traffic at their table games increase. The casinos operated by the Seminole Tribes found an increased number of demands from players for real blackjack games and thereby took steps to meet this need.

The first Seminole casino to feel this change was the Coconut Creek Casino which had 12 new blackjack tables added to its gaming floor. The Coconut Creek Casino is scheduled to begin its first blackjack game on August 13th, 2010 and is expected to garner a lot of media attention for the dealing of the first ceremonial blackjack hand which will take place at 3 pm on that day. The first hand will be dealt by prominent Tribal Council members, actor David Cassidy, Roy White a NY Yankee and Ed Kranepool from the Mets.

In preparation for this day, the Coconut Creek Casino has taken on 90 blackjack dealers, along with 24 managerial staff to take care of its new blackjack tables and the increased player traffic. The casino also hired around 55 poker dealers. The majority of these new jobs were given to people from within the state, proving that the new laws were indeed creating job opportunities for Americans affected by the recession.

According to reports, the Seminole Casino Hollywood is next in line to open its blackjack tables and we can only wait to see how many tables and jobs this will provide.

Atlantic City Blackjack to Be Taken Over by State?

August 6th, 2010 by Site Admin

There have been many reports of dissatisfaction among the blackjack players in Atlantic City, who claim that the casinos here are no longer friendly towards them. Atlantic City casinos have long been in financial difficulty seeing a cut back on the traffic flowing through their gaming halls. In a drastic move to change this situation, Chris Christie, the Governor for the state of New Jersey wants to take over the whole of Atlantic City and turn into a vacation spot and convention center.

What this will means for the already struggling casinos in Atlantic City remains to be seen. After all, a family vacation spot may not be the best place to have casinos and blackjack tables and the governor’s decision may end up driving away the last blackjack players from Atlantic City. It could also end up working in favour for Atlantic City casinos should the changes attract lots of tourists looking for a good time.

Currently, the Atlantic City casinos have blackjack games with bad payouts, while many have even cut down the number of blackjack tables at their casinos to curb losses after the economic downturn. Some players even reported that casinos had several of their blackjack tables closed during the day, allowing only a couple to stay open. All this resulted in an exodus of blackjack players from Atlantic City thus affecting the casinos there even more with players choosing to play online blackjack or take a flight to Vegas for their gambling needs.
