Atlantic City Casino Fined $20,000

January 4th, 2011 by Site Admin

The reputed Caesars’ owned Showboat Casino in Atlantic City suffered a recent setback when it was fined $20,000 for permitting underage gamers to play at their blackjack tables. The legal age for gambling in the state of Nevada is 21 and the casino was noted to have permitted three players aged 16 to 20 to place bets on blackjack games.

This Atlantic City casino was fined for two counts of underage gambling and reports estimate that the casino has allowed several underage gamblers to play at their tables. The first count involved three players under the age of 21, one being 16 years of age; all three players bought chips and began to play blackjack. It was only after a few hands that it was noted that they were too young. A few days later, the second incident occurred, when a 19 year old played for over an hour at the blackjack tables before he was found out by a cocktail waitress who thought to check his ID.

And if not being able to discern a 16 year old for an adult player and permitting underage gambling was not a big enough black mark against the Showboat Casino, the casino was also accepting players who had placed themselves on the New Jersey self-exclusion list. All the winnings were then forfeited to the state.

December 30th, 2010 by Site Admin

This week proved to be a very lucky one for Oneil Desrosiers, a resident of Hodgeville in Canada, as it made him $21,000 richer when he won a Blackjack lottery.

This blackjack lottery win was particularly noteworthy because it was Oneil Desrosiers first win on his second ticket. Reportedly, Desrosiers has only purchased two blackjack tickets so far; the winning ticket was a $2 blackjack lottery tickets from EMTA Agencies.

“This was only the second Scratch ‘n’ Win ticket I have ever bought. The clerk was filling the display board and asked me if I wanted one, so I bought it,” Desrosiers commented. After checking his ticket, Desrosiers took it back into the store and had the clerk look at it.

When it went through the lottery terminal it was found to be a winner by the clerk. “He told me, ‘you’d better sit down and I will tell you a joke,’ because we joke together all the time. When he told me I had won, I got so excited that I left the store without my hat, my cup and the ticket, and went home to get my wife. She thought I was joking, since I do joke a lot,” said Desrosiers as he described the incident.

Oneil Desrosiers will share his winnings with his wife who plans on getting her home renovated and her kitchens done. Mrs. Desrosiers will be spending some money on new kitchen cabinets and on redoing the Desrosiers residence. Reports state that Desrosiers promised his wife ‘a good Christmas’ and indeed, if $21,000 and new cabinets have anything to say about it – it is certain to be one.

Kohara Naoki Wins Blackjack South Pacific Championship

December 23rd, 2010 by Site Admin

Just as the poker industry has poker champions and poker tournaments the game of blackjack also has its own set of competitions and blackjack champions. One such blackjack tournament is the Tinian Blackjack Championship which takes place twice a year and attracts players from all over the South Pacific. This year’s event was won by Kohara Naoki, a skilled blackjack player from Japan who attended the event held at the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino, based in the Mariana Islands.

The blackjack tournament went on for a couple of days and ended on Sunday; the blackjack South Pacific championship was eventually won by Kohara Naoki who took in prize money worth $68,000 when he came in at first place. This is a good amount of prize money for a blackjack tourney, especially since it is a bi-annual gathering. Over a hundred blackjack players participated in the event held at the Tinian Dynasty Casino; the tournament featured three blackjack sessions on Saturday and all the games used eight standard decks and two shoes. This particular feature made it difficult for anyone with card counting skills to get away with anything. The semifinal event was held on Sunday and was attended by 49 players with each player having $3,000 to begin. This wound down to six players of which Naoki triumphed.

December 20th, 2010 by Site Admin

Casino Sues Publisher of Blackjack Brawl Videos on YouTube

December 9th, 2010 by Site Admin

Two YouTube videos of blackjack players fighting insides the Lucky Chances Casino, located in California, have tarnished its public image, owing to which the casino has sued the person responsible, whose identity is not yet known.

Initially, it was reported that the two YouTube videos titled “Casino Fight 333” and “Casino Fight 555” were captured via mobile phone. However, certain features of the videos, especially the gaming floor view and the time code, suggest that they were recorded by the CCTV security cameras of the blackjack casino.

While “Casino Fight 555” shows two customers wrestling on the floor near a blackjack table, “Casino Fight 333” (Video has been removed from YouTube) shows a fight in a larger room. The casino, however, is least bothered about how the videos were filmed; instead, it is miffed about the fact that they were published without its permission. If the casino’s security cameras are indeed the sources of these videos, the matter could get really serious, especially since the operators say that business has suffered because of these videos, which imply that Lucky Chances Casino encourages customers who lack basic casino manners.

However, if the blackjack casino brawls resulted in any injuries or if bystanders were pulled into it, the blackjack casino might find itself being sued in turn.

Experts Predict Blackjack Rule Changes in Favor of Casinos

December 8th, 2010 by Site Admin

Michael “The Wizard” Shackleford, a reputed gambling expert, has predicted that the state of Pennsylvania will tighten blackjack gaming rules. Expressing his appreciation of Pennsylvania for its excellent blackjack rules, he said that they might get worse because the blackjack gambling market in Pennsylvania is not competitive enough.

This July, Pennsylvania introduced blackjack with rules that enhanced player odds; in fact, these rules reduce the casino edge by less than 0.4 percent provided a player sticks to basic strategy. This spring, the representatives of the blackjack gaming industry requested the Gaming Control Board (GCB) to consider changing the present payout structure to 6 – 5, and GCB Executive Director Kevin O’Toole said that the board will review blackjack rules shortly, although he did not mention details.

According to Shackleford’s prediction, casino operators will request for rules such as hitting on soft 17 and 6 – 5 payouts, which will enhance the house edge by 1.4 percent. However, Shackleford is not the only expert to make these predictions. Anthony Curtis of LasVegasAdvisor.com said that casinos usually tighten payout structures a few months after their establishment.

Such a development can increase Pennsylvania’s income through tax revenue and make the casino owners richer, but will not benefit the players in anyway.

Gambling Friendly Bills to Legalize Online Blackjack in New Jersey

December 5th, 2010 by Site Admin

New Jersey now has two new gambling friendly laws that will bring plenty of blackjack into the state. The senate has approved Ray Lesniak’s bill, which legalizes online gambling in New Jersey and allows foreigners and New Jersey residents to place bets on blackjack in casinos that use sophisticated gaming software as long as the servers are in the casinos of Atlantic City. The bill won by a majority of 29 – 5, and an amendment made to it provides for 15 percent tax on gross gambling revenues.

The bill permits online casinos to provide gaming services including poker, baccarat, roulette, craps, blackjack, mini baccarat, slots, big six wheel, pai gow, red dog, and sic bo or any composites or variations of the above-mentioned as long as these composites or variations are offered online. Unfortunately, the bill prevents players from all other US states, except New Jersey, to stake in New Jersey based online casinos.

Another blackjack friendly bill has also been passed permitting the establishment of smaller 200-room casinos in New Jersey. Previously, hotels needed to have a minimum of 500 rooms to offer gaming services.

Governor Chris Christie still has to sign these bills, but Lesniak says there is no reason why he will not sign them.

Nothile Mlita Emerges Best Blackjack Dealer at TSG Competition

December 2nd, 2010 by Site Admin

The panel of judges at the Tsogo Sun Gaming (TSG) competition selected 24-year-old Nothile Mlita of Ntuzuma as “best blackjack dealer.”

Mlita hardly has any experience in the gaming industry, having entered it in 2004. The TSG competition of this year was the first time she competed against 13 other blackjack dealers from seven casinos all over the country.

Mlita, who works as a blackjack dealer at the Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World, was selected to participate in this competition by her managers and supervisors because she had emerged second best in the internal competitions conducted by the company. Speaking about her recent achievement, Mlita said that she is proud of it although the competition was very stressful and the judges were experienced blackjack dealers.

The TSG competition tested dealers’ aptitude for roulette as well as blackjack, and each participant was placed on a 1 – 4 scale for accuracy, customer relations, chip handling, skill, grooming, speed, table attentiveness, and versatility. Blackjack dealers do not need to know blackjack strategies because their moves are governed by blackjack rules and not mathematical probabilities. The competition did not examine their knowledge of blackjack lingo separately, although it might been a part of customer relationships and skills.
