Ronald Page Gets Sentenced For Spending Over $1.5 Million At Blackjack Tables
July 13th, 2012 by Site Admin
Ronald Page thought he got lucky back in 2009, when a computer error resulted in him being able to withdraw huge sums of money from ATMs located at three Detroit casinos. Page, a former GM employee, figured out a way to withdraw huge sums of money from his ATM.
During a 14 day span managed to withdrawn more than $1.5 million. He then went straight to the Blackjack tables and played non-stop, sometimes for periods ranging between 24-36 hours. While, he managed to win huge sums of cash at the Blackjack tables, he also lost heavily. In the end, he spent all his cash and was left with nothing.
His crime finally caught up with him, when earlier this week, a federal judge in Detroit sentenced Ronald Page to 15 months in prison and asked him to payback the Bank of America from his pension.
Richard Morgan Jr. of Pontiac, the lawyer of Page said “It was like giving a junkie crack cocaine. He is now a broken and lost man who has to deal with the rest of his life of attempting to pay back a sum of money that is nearly impossible to pay back”.
The reason Page walked away with only a 15 month sentence is because the court determined that part of the problem was due to the glitch caused by Bank of America’s computer system.

Do Hedge Fund Managers Have A Upper Hand At Blackjack
July 2nd, 2012 by Site Admin
Jack Schwager recently stated in an interview that while a lot of Hedge Fund Managers are considered to be extremely smart, they are not geniuses. The interview was given a few days after Michael Geismar, president of Quantitative Investment Management won over $700k playing Blackjack.
Geismar said he had very little experience playing Blackjack and mostly credited Dr. Edward Thorp’s book – “Bringing Down The House” for his success. Thorp also received a lot of publicity for his book “Beat the Dealer” where he taught people how to bet on Blackjack and beat the Casino’s. The book was responsible for changing the way Casino’s operated as they had to counter the strategies that Thorp outlined in his book.
Speaking of Thorp, Schwager said “He took a game like blackjack, which has a built in negative edge, and figured out mathematically that by varying the bets so you bet more when the odds were in your favor, and less when the odds are against you, you can turn what is a negative edge game into a positive edge. That does have a straight analogy with trading. It means that if you can successfully wager more when you have high confidence trades, assuming that you can judge the better probability trades, you can make money even if on balance, your ideas are net negative.”
Thorp’s books are read by a number of Hedge Fund managers who then go and try their hand at Blackjack and other dealer games. Apart from Geismar, there are no reports yet of Hedge Fund Managers walking away with large fortunes, which shows that they do not necessarily have an upper hand when playing Blackjack.
However, considering what Hedge Fund Managers do for a living and coupled with the knowledge they derive from books written by authors like Thorp, these managers might soon come up with a way to win more often at live dealer games.
Myspace Cofounder Invests in Future of Online Gaming
June 27th, 2012 by Site Admin
Myspace may have fallen off the face of the earth, but that hasn’t stopped co-founder Tom Anderson from planning his next move. According to new reports from Card Player, his next career move may be in online poker. Anderson is clearly optimistic that online gaming will be legal in the United States in the near future.
Anderson has invested in RocketFrog, a new social gaming platform. RocketFrog launched a Facebook application last week and has already become a popular platform. Founder Brett Calapp felt that there would be a strong market for his startup after the Justice Department changed its position on online gaming six months ago. As the cofounder of Centurion Games, Callap is an experienced player in the online gaming industry. He is confident that he has found a strong market and can reach enough customers to generate some real cash flow.
RocketFrog customers will have the option of playing for real-world prizes. No other social gaming firm offers such an opportunity. While it builds its user base, RocketFrog will be monetizing itself with advertising from a variety of businesses.
Anderson feels that RocketFrog has many bright prospects ahead of itself. Calapp has taken him on as an adviser and he will be looking for new ways to help RocketFrog grow its subscriber base.
Anderson and Callap recognize that real money gambling may never be allowed on Facebook. However, the firm does allow third-party companies to sell virtual goods in services. Zynga has created a similar arrangement with Facebook in exchange for a 30% share of revenues. Callap is confident that his revenue model will be equally successful.
In an interview with Venture Beat reporters, Callup said “RocketFrog will expand our social gaming community to include many new players who could not fathom the idea of playing for nothing, but are ecstatic about the opportunity to play for gift cards from top brands, new albums from their favorite artists, or a ticket to the movies.”
