A Horse, A Dog and Michael Gaughan Play Blackjack Together

November 6th, 2012 by Site Admin

Blackjack games are getting more interesting everyday and casinos and blackjack online sites seem to be coming up with several unique ways of promoting their enterprise.

One of the most innovative and unusual stunts to be pulled at a blackjack game recently took place at the South Point Casino. The owner of the South Point Casino, Michael Gaughan sat down for a blackjack game and photo session with two of the strangest players to ever grace a blackjack table – King the Dalmatian and Elite a horse.

King, was extremely intelligent for his stature and seemed to be winning the game while Elite, quite naturally towered over the rest of his opponents. Elite is a Budweiser Clydesdale and was present at the casino with his handler.

A lot of beer was also served to the players, who used extra large playing cards to make it convenient for the four legged players at the table. The owner, Michael Gaughan was very amused by the game and laughed while he helped escort King and Elite to the blackjack pit.

A photographer captured pictures of the three together while the game was monitored by Ryan Growney, the General Manager of the South Point Casino. Growney ensured that there was no monkey business taking place at the table.

Poker Pro Phil Ivey Is Also A Blackjack Player

October 30th, 2012 by Site Admin

American professional poker player Phil Ivey and English professional poker player Ram Vaswani settled their golf bet dispute worth $900k recently.

Regarding Ivey’s latest troubles with Crockfords, Vaswan commented that the American professional poker player enjoys playing high stakes baccarat and blackjack, adding that it is not unusual for Ivey to bet huge amounts in a game of Punto Banco.

Neither Crockfords nor Ivey nor their legal representatives have commented on the allegations of cheating made by Crockfords.

In 2007, a group of four professional poker players, including Vaswani and Ivey, played golf for $20k per hole, and as the game progressed, the stakes were raised to $50k per hole. Although Vaswani lost the game to Phil Ivey, he refused to pay Ivey, stating that the bet was invalid.

Vaswani also claimed that the assigned handicaps were unfair and that Ivey had not given him the correct information about his golf skills. Ivey, however, insisted that he had clearly told Vaswani about his previous golfing experience and skills.

After settling the dispute yesterday, Vaswani told reporters that the matter is now settled, but did not reveal the finer details of the settlement. According to the newspapers, Vaswani had paid part of the amount he owed Ivey.

Great Blackjack Gaming at Downtown Vegas

October 26th, 2012 by Site Admin

Downtown Las Vegas has slowly transformed from “Old Vegas” to a sophisticated “Freemont Street” while simultaneously retaining its historical significance. Visitors walking down Freemont Street will now see bands performing for free, giving them a magical experience. The only thing about Downtown Vegas that has not changed is its gambling. Blackjack players are still free to head over to casinos and play their favorite casino games.

The D Hotel and Casino, which was formerly known as Fitzgerald’s will be celebrating its Grand Opening on Oct 13. The casino floor will feature dancing girls, the Long Bar, loud music, and great gambling.

A majority of the casinos offer only low-limits blackjack with 6 – 5 payouts, but the D Hotel and Casino is an exceptional case, offering 3 – 2 payouts, but a much lower house edge. Blackjack players, however, are advised to read the rules carefully before wagering real money because each casino and each blackjack table stands in a class of its own.

Besides blackjack, players can find great games of video poker and craps at the D Hotel and Casino. Since the limits begin at $3 for blackjack at downtown Vegas casinos, they never fail to attract huge crowds of players.

Lesniak Criticizes Reid’s Bill Which Would Ban Online Gaming

October 15th, 2012 by Site Admin

Many members of the online gaming community are concerned about provisions in the online poker bill authored by Harry Reid and Jon Kyl. Some politicians share their concerns. New Jersey senator Raymond Lesniak has recently criticized Reid’ bill, because it would ban most forms of online gaming.

Lesniak and some of his colleagues in New Jersey have been working hard to implement new laws which would legalize online gaming. Lesniak has spent the past nine months working on a bill that would legalize intrastate gambling. He hoped he would put the bill to a vote in the state Assembly and go to Gov. Christie’s desk back in January. However, Lesniak and his supporters have faced a number of challenges that have prevented it from going to a vote.

Many advocates of online gaming have been hoping that Reid and Kyl’s bill would offer new opportunities for the gaming industry. However, the provisions in the bill would make it illegal to offer online gaming services other than poker or horse racing. Lesniak feels this will make New Jersey and many other states worse off since they would lose the right to offer intrastate online gaming to their citizens.

Lesniak said Reid is trying to pass a bill that would help Nevada’s gaming industry at the expense of New Jersey and many other states. New Jersey could generate nearly $200 million in annual revenue from online gaming. Lesniak has advised his colleagues representing New Jersey in the federal Senate and Congress what is at stake. He is asking them to vote against Reid and Kyl’s bill and demand that it be rewritten to include other forms of online gaming.

To Split Tens or Not to Split Them in Blackjack

October 11th, 2012 by Site Admin

John Grochowski, a news writer, described poker tips given to him by a blackjack player. According to him blackjack strategy is something that should be adapted to suit your table and game play. For instance, standard blackjack strategy advises players not to split tens and most players do follow this. However, Grochowski’s blackjack contact often opts to split his tens if faced with the dealer’s hand of a face up six.

“With a 20 against a 6, I have an advantage. But I also have an advantage with a 10 against a 6. And when I have an advantage, I have to take full advantage by getting my money on the table, right? The way to increase my bet and maximize my advantage is to split the pair,” he said.

However, it must be noted that the 20 is a far stronger hand than a 10 and it is not a good idea to split it, unless your luck is going really well for you.

When a player begins with a 20 – he is looking at taking an average of $70 for every $100 that he spends betting. Yet, when the player splits his tens and faces a dealer’s six, his profits stand to drop to a win of $43 for every $100 spent.
