Christie Pledges to Sign Online Gaming Bill Quickly

March 6th, 2013 by Site Admin

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has pledged to sign an online gaming bill if lawmakers made the revisions he requested. He stated on Tuesday that the legislation is priority and he will sign it as quickly as possible. He could potentially sign it within 24 hours.

New Jersey lawmakers hope their state will be the third in the country to pass a bill legalizing online gambling. They believe that their state will be one of the key players in the future of online gaming in the United States. The new bill would mark the biggest step New Jersey has taken to expand online gaming in nearly 40 years.

Both the Senate and Assembly have stated that they intend to consider voting on the new version of the bill in the next week. Lawmakers from both houses said that they are willing to address the concerns that Christie raised when he vetoed the bill a couple of weeks ago. Christie requested a 10 year trial period and asked for lawmakers to increase the taxes on casinos providing online gaming. He also raised concerns that the previous version of the bill didn’t contain enough safeguards to protect minors and citizens with gambling addictions.

Senator Raymond Lesniak, the author of the original bill, said both the House and Senate hope to pass a revised bill within the week. They would like to send the bill to Christie by February 26. Both houses are in recess, but will be meeting that day to hear Christie’s speech about the budget.

Most of New Jersey’s casino owners support the legislation. The casinos will be responsible for managing online gaming operations in New Jersey.

Atlanta Native Wins Big With Blackjack

March 4th, 2013 by Site Admin

Move over Powerball and enter Fantasy Blackjack! Sure, millions in cash winnings is hard to beat, but a close second would be winning $150,000 from one scratch off ticket. That’s right, Dina Wooten purchased a ticket for Fantasy Blackjack from the convenient store and got a lot more than she had bargained for. A LOT more.

When asked about her winnings, Wooten explained, “I feel so wonderful.”

Wooten and her family have wasted no time figuring out where and how to spend the new small fortune. Her priorities are to pay off outstanding bills and then buying a brand new car.

So far this year, the Georgia Lottery has helped fund state education to the tune of over $14 billion. Much of this money goes towards Georgia’s Scholarship Program called HOPE. This program has helped over 1.4 million students receive educational assistance.

This is a side of state lotteries that many people don’t see televised in the media, that is, the donations and funding that go towards state institutions such as education and municipalities. Perhaps more people would buy tickets if they knew that part of their purchases were going towards such a good cause.

PokerStrategy Wins Lawsuit against Pocket Kings

February 28th, 2013 by Site Admin

PokerStrategy accused Pocket Kings of withholding $1.2 million last August. They filed a lawsuit seeking restitution for the unpaid fees. Pocket Kings decided not to contest the charges in court. As a result, the Irish High Court ruled in favor of PokerStrategy.

Damon Banard, the attorney representing PokerStrategy, said that the firm is relieved that the court chose to rule in their favor. However, Banard also said that PokerStategy is skeptical that they will receive the entire settlement they are owed from Pocket Kings.

Pocket Kings is a subsidiary of Full Tilt Poker and is currently facing bankruptcy. Big 4 auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers is charged with helping Pocket Kings sort out its insolvency issues. The firm owes considerable back pay to many other affiliates and may not have the finances to repay all of them.

Barnard has said he will cooperate with PricewaterhouseCoopers investigation. He is concerned that Pocket Kings and its directors have acted unfaithfully in their dealings with PokerStrategy and other affiliates. He hopes his cooperation will be able to shed some light on their conduct and ensure all affiliates receive as much of their back pay as possible.

Helen O’Kane, the policy manager for the UK Gambling Commission, said that regulations need to be strengthened. Full Tilt affiliates and players went more than a year without being compensated for their earnings. O’Kane said that the regulator will take the necessary measures to reduce the likelihood that a similar travesty will happen in the future.

However, O’Kane said that the government will be careful what steps it takes to enhance their oversigh of online gaming providers. She said that the United Kingdom will not be seizing player funds and does not intend to require gaming providers to maintain certain liquidity standards.

Busting Popular Blackjack Myths

February 11th, 2013 by Site Admin

Blackjack is a lively social game, and blackjack tables at casinos are full of fun, light chatter, and laughter. Most of the players populating blackjack tables know nothing about the game, but believe they do. Such players often make the mistake of taking blackjack myths to be facts.

One of the biggest blackjack myths is that the dealer’s hidden card is always a ten, which is mathematically impossible because only 30 percent of the deck comprises cards worth 10.

Blackjack players also have the habit of thinking that bad blackjack players at the table will reduce their chances of winning the game. A blackjack players’ bad decisions hardly ever hurt the other players’ games.

Some blackjack players also feel that counting cards is illegal, which is just not true. Counting cards is perfectly legal as long as it is done mentally and no external device is used for the purpose. Casinos, however, dislike card counters and can tell a player to leave if they suspect him/her to be a card counter.

Blackjack is a mathematical game, which has nothing to do with myths and superstitions. Players can listen to their “gut feelings,” but they are better off learning how to implement correct strategies.
