Blackjack Player at Twin River Casino Arrested for Stealing Chips
July 26th, 2013 by Site Admin
Twin River Casino had to alert the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit (GEU) for the first time after its launch when a customer tried to steal chips from another customer. Ultimately, the police arrested 46-year-old Steven Sabitoni, who hails from Lincoln.
Sabitoni has been booked for stealing a sum of money below $1,500. Twin River Casino’s surveillance footage showed Sabitoni stealing chips worth $250 from another player at the blackjack table.
Security at Twin River Casino alerted a GEU detective when they noticed Sabitoni stealing chips from a fellow blackjack player. The casino has banned Sabitoni permanently from its premises.
Sabitoni was prosecuted in the Sixth Division District Court, where Joseph P. Ippolito Jr., the honorable magistrate, released him when he paid a $1k personal recognizance.
Colonel Steven G. O’ Donnell said that the Rhode Island State Police give top importance to the integrity of the gaming services offered at Twin River Casino. Anybody who violates the casino’s rules will be dealt with strictly.

Maryland Committee Mulls over Unifying County Gambling Laws
July 23rd, 2013 by Site Admin
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency pointed out that the state’s county-level gambling regulations are vague and confusing, at the first meeting of a committee that was recently appointed to monitor Maryland gambling activities.
For instance, playing billiards for real money is illegal in Carroll County unless done in a senior citizen center on any day that is not Sunday. Besides, it is illegal for prizes over $5 to be given away.
Although it is the need of the hour to unify the county-level gambling regulations, a leader said that it is not advisable to recommend changes as “local jurisdictions are really sensitive about those issues” and “hold revenues dear.” Senator Nancy J. King pointed out that counties spend gambling funds on development activities such as youth sports and others.
The state of Maryland has already approved four casinos and two of them have already been thrown open to the public. The state licenses and regulates these commercial casinos, which offer games such as blackjack, poker, slots, and craps. However, several forms of gambling, most of them sponsored by charitable organizations, are regulated by the counties.
Although the committee agreed that uniformity is essential, it did not appear eager to take any steps in that direction.

Rhode Island lawmakers are currently in the process of rewriting a gambling bill that can have a major impact on the state’s casino gaming industry. But Twin River, which is on the verge of launching a number of table games, including blackjack, is not worried about it.
The Senate Judiciary Committee recently passed laws that can alter the Gaming Control Act in a big way. These changes have fixed licensing fees at $100 million and created a set of strict rules to prevent crimes related to casino gaming.
The new laws were passed just a few days before Twin River plans to launch a selection of table games, including blackjack. As per the casino’s plans, a charity blackjack tournament will form part of the inaugural ceremony, and a number of dignitaries are expected to take part in it and win money for a charity of their choice.
Speaking about the changes in the state’s casino gaming laws, John Taylor, chairman for Twin River said that he does not think it will have any effect on the launch ceremony, adding that existing laws cover all issues that the bill has raised.
Twin River launched its new table games on June 19, Wednesday.

Recovering Gambling Addict Attempts to Retrieve $3 Million Blackjack Losses
July 10th, 2013 by Site Admin
A federal appeals court in Manhattan has ruled that Foxwoods Casino cannot be blamed for the misfortunes of one of its customers.
Fifty-year-old Bruce Tassone, who has openly admitted to being a “pathological gambler,” had lost around $3 million playing table games such as craps and blackjack at the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. He had sued the casino in the US Second Circuit Court of Appeals, but the court discarded the civil racketeering case he had filed on grounds that the Mashantucket Pequot tribe, which runs the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut, has “sovereign immunity” to litigation.
Expressing his disappointment at having lost the case, Tassone revealed his plans to appeal before the US Supreme Court. Admitting that it is “a long shot,” he said that even a recovering gambling addict like him deserves to hit a long shot once in a lifetime.
Tassone has accused the casino of luring him to the blackjack tables through the US mail even after he had requested it to ban him permanently. A resident of North Adams in Massachusetts, Tassone reportedly visited Foxwoods Casino 175 times before his excessive and compulsive gambling habits completely wrecked his marriage in 2000. He was later imprisoned for embezzling $800k from his employer.

Online Blackjack Could Soon Be Legal Throughout The US
July 6th, 2013 by Site Admin
While a number of states look to relax their laws on online gambling, the most sought after game that is being pushed for is online poker. However, online blackjack is not far behind and once states like Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware allow more operators to function, the online blackjack market is likely to take off in a big way.
As of now, only Ultimate Poker is operating its online poker website in Nevada. However, a number of other companies are pushing to get their licenses ready. During this waiting period, they are working hard to develop high tech software games such as online blackjack that will allow their users to play their favorite online game from the comfort of their homes and still feel like they are playing at a live casino.
One of the reasons why online gambling companies are focusing on their software is because there have been a number of complaints from Ultimate Poker players who complain that the software release is not up to standard due to a number of reasons.
So while the states continue to deliberate over the legalization of online poker and online blackjack, these companies will look to work and improve the support and platform of their innovative online games. Blackjack lovers will have to be a little more patient before they can get free access from their homes.
