The blackjack community in Minnesota had been looking forward to the opportunity to being able to play blackjack games at the Running Aces Harness Park on account of the possibility of the race track hosting blackjack games.
The Running Aces Harness Park had petitioned the Minnesota Racing Commission concerning electronic blackjack games asking the authorities to grant them permission to offer electronic blackjack to gamblers. However, much to the disappointment of the Running Aces Harness Park, the Minnesota Racing Commission declined this suggestion.
According to Commissioner Jacqueline Duncanson, “I think everyone sitting here would like to approve this. We would like to have racino. We would like to be able to have our racetracks have more ways to generate money for larger purses. We would like to support this. But what I would like in life is not always what is right or what is legal.”
Some of the members of the Minnesota Racing Commission were in favor of the idea like Commissioner Kris Sundberg, who said, “We have to recognize that electronic everything is just our future and we’re way behind…Just approve it, as is … and let the chips fall where they may.”
