The gambling industry and casino sector in Macau, China is thriving as the player market is strong and has great potential. What’s more, students in China have noticed that the gambling sector offers them great income opportunities and tend to look for jobs in casinos as blackjack dealers and floor managers.
At the Macau Polytechnic Institute, students attend classes on how to play casino games and win at blackjack and roulette. Students look to pick up tips on how to win at these casino games and get more money. The institute has a mock casino and a Gaming Teaching and Research Center that offers courses. Other students get into the industry by working at these venues because of the high income offered.
According to Marcos Wong, the supervisor of a VIP room at the Grand Lisboa Casino, “I have thought of another job, but the salaries at other jobs are lower than the casinos. Now I’ve become used to this lifestyle…We didn’t have a lot of money when I was growing up so of course I had to study more to try to change my destiny. But to change one’s destiny, the reality is you need a lot of money.”
