Wall Street Entrepreneur Talks about Playing Blackjack

A few hedge fund pioneers began life as successful blackjack players in Las Vegas casinos. The best of them are Blair Hull and Ed Thorp.
Playing blackjack is not for the faint hearted. Players require fearlessness, discipline, and skill in order to play a game of blackjack, especially when the casino’s video cameras are closely watching them.
One of those who made a fortune playing blackjack games in Las Vegas casinos was Josh Axelrad. He wrote about his experiences in a book titled “Repeat Until Rich: A Professional Card Counter’s Chronicle of the Blackjack Wars,” published by Penguin in 2010. Although not widely read, the book is a classic. Axelrad’s book is the story of an entrepreneur’s successful life, his spiritual journey, and guide to playing blackjack.
Axelrad got a degree from Columbia University, spent some time in Spain teaching English, and then returned to New York, where he got a temporary job as a receptionist. Inspired by an MIT friend, he joined a non-MIT blackjack group founded by a prestigious trader in Wall Street.
Speaking about his aggressive blackjack playing days, he said that they had a don’t-care attitude and kept introducing more players to the team so that they could beat the casinos better.
